Topics that will be covered in the course are:
• Introduction
• Physics and mathematics of molecular diffusion process
• Advective gradient diffusion process
• Turbulent diffusion
• Shear flow dispersion
• Mixing in natural waterways
• Physical, chemical, and biological transformations
• Interfacial exchange at air-water and sediment-water interfaces |

課程目標 |
The course is to introduce the processes of transport, mixing, and transformation of substances in the hydrosphere on various scales. Class topics include: fundamental mechanisms of diffusion, advection, dispersion, and reaction processes in the natural environment; basic mathematical formulations and computational methods in predicting the fate and transport of pollutants and contaminants in naturally occurring flows; synthesis the theories and the analytical tools developed in the course to solve real-world engineering problems. |
